Costs associated with FoI requests

Please note the following fees and charges for processing a 'request for access to information (FoI)' request. All fees are GST free. Some fees and charges may be waived due to financial difficulty, if the request is routine or if the request is in the public's interest.

All FoI fees are determined by the Freedom of Information (Access Charges) Regulation 1993. Other charges may apply - go to Freedom of Information Victoria for up to date information on the application fee and access charges.

The supervision fees are calculated based per quarter of an hour (or part thereof, rounded to the nearest 10c).

  • Up to 15 minutes = $6.30
  • 15-30 minutes = $12.60
  • 35-45 minutes = $18.90
  • 45 minutes - 1 hour = $25.20

How to submit a FOI request?

Customers must use the online form which is available on our website. A paper form is no longer available.

How to pay for the FOI request?

The online form allows customers to pay upfront or apply for hardship. If hardship is selected, the application is submitted without payment for Governance to review. If payment is still required, Governance will ask ZZCSSupport to contact the customer for payment.

What happens after you submit your application online?

The council must respond to a request within 30 days of receiving it. This time frame may be extended if further clarification, consultation, or access charges are required. Sometimes, a request is refused to protect personal privacy or for other special reasons.

What information can be accessed via FOI request?

You have a right to apply for access to documents that are held by Council in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act. 

This includes:

  • Documents created by Council
  • Documents supplied to Council by external organisations or individuals
  • Documents about your personal affairs, regardless of the age of the document
  • Documents of a non-personal nature held by Council not older than 1 January 1989

What information cannot be accessed?

Under the Freedom of Information Act you may not be able to access:

  • Cabinet documents
  • Some internal working documents
  • Documents covered by legal professional privilege, such as legal advice
  • Documents containing personal information about other people, (including names , address or other contact details)
  • Documents containing information provided to Council in confidence
  • Documents containing information provided to Council by a business
  • Documents which are covered by secrecy provisions in other legislations

How to obtain other people's personnel details for fencing or Building Matters

Ownership detail related to adjoining fencing matters

Customer must present in person to our service centres as formal identification such as a Driver’s License will need to be provided. The form needs to be submitted at our centres as well. 

Ownership details related to building matters

Where adjoining neighbours ownership details are required for a Protection Work Notice or Advertising in relation to proposed works in relation to a Report to Consent Application (Building Act 1993). Protection Work Notice Form.

Advise the customer to email their request to council@cgd.vic.gov.au, attention it to Building Department. They will contact the customer.
