Lost and Found Stray Cat or Dog Enquiry

Lost your dog?

When a pet is found, rangers first scan the dog or cat for a microchip and check ownership details to return it to the owner. If they cannot contact the owner, the pet will be taken to the Council Pound.

The Council does not have a holding area for pets.

CSO:

  • Advise the customer that if they have lost their pet, the best option is to call the Pound first.
  • They can also try contacting the other organisations listed below, as residents who have found their pet may have taken it directly there without contacting the Council.

Lost your cat?

If you have lost your cat or it's missing, we suggest you contact the Council Pound to check if an officer of Council has taken it there.

Cats can only be collected if they are trapped in a Council approved cat trap. For Occupation Health and Safety reasons, and to minimise stress to the animals, they are not handled and scanned for a microchip until they have calmed down at the pound.
