Advice to Customer
Monday - Friday 8.15 am - 4.30 pm

The Council Ranger will contact you within the hour
Monday - Friday 4.30 pm - 5.00 pm
  • Council cannot pick up stray animals after 4:30 PM due to the Animal Pound's operating hours and lack of overnight holding capacity.
  • If the customer can keep the animal overnight, the Ranger will call them in the morning to arrange pickup.
  • If they cannot keep the animal overnight, they may be able to find a 24-hour emergency Vet for drop-off. We advise them to call the vet to check if they can hold the dog.
  • There is a 24-hour Vet Referral Hospital in Dandenong that they could try, but note advise the customer that this is not a recommendation from the Council.

Due to OHS and Work Safe legislation, stray or feral cats will only be picked up if contained in a COUNCIL TRAP - the ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE IS BELOW. The member of the public have to hire a Council cat trap - go to Cat trap hire for more information

Enquire from Vets within CGD, Council Animal Protection Society, Animal Shelter about cats contained in

Council will pick up from these places, complete Merit request

Due to legislation, we are not allowed to take and/or pass on any personal information (including phone numbers) regarding another animal owner. If someone has found a stray dog/cat, enter a Merit so that the ranger can pick up the animal.
