Animal owner surrendering their own registered pet to Council
Pet owners can surrender a dog or cat to Council for whatever reason.
CSO:

Animal > Surrendered animal
Council Officer will respond within 24 hours
Please inform the customer that a ranger will reach out to them regarding the surrender of their pet. The owners will need to keep their animal for 3 days to ensure they are making the right decision. Once the ranger collects the animal, the owners will not be able to contact the council about their pet.

Request for refund:
There is not refund provided if they surrender their registered pet to Council.
Person surrendering a cat or dog that does not belong to them but is left in their possession
Pet owners can surrender a dog or cat to Council if the animal owner has left it with them but have not returned to pick up their pet.

Advise the customer that a surrendered animal become the property of Council and owner forfeits all rights to the animal

Already surrendered the animal to animal shelter
If the pet owner is calling or presents in person to update their registration as they surrendered it to the Council Pound.
CSO:
- Go to Property and Rating and locate the animal registration
- Confirm in 'Property and Rating':
Owner's name
Address where the animal was located
Animal's age, colour and breed - Update the record in Property and Rating, change the status of the animal to surrendered and enter an animal memo
- If received write the animal ID number on all documents and scan to Records
