Where is the graffiti located?

Bus shelter

Bus shelters are being upgraded to the new Ooh Media bus shelters. If the bus shelter is one that is an Ooh Media, then they need to remove the graffiti.

Go to Intramaps and check who maintains the bus shelter. (instructions for searching bus shelters intersections)

If the bus shelter is maintained by Ooh Media

  • Advise customer to contact Ooh Media (formerly known as Adshel) Ph:1800 501 402 (24 hours Service),
  • Transfer the call if required, Ooh Media is in Touch Point

If the bus shelter is maintained by Council

Complete Merit request

Graffiti > Council Assets > Offensive or Non Offensive

All reports that have offensive graffiti must be entered as a Safety Response and called through to Operation Centre. 

To determine offensive and non-offensive, you will need to ask the customer exactly what has been graffitied. Examples of offensive: swear words, rude pictures or racist comments.

Ask and record in the description of Merit:

  • What is the exact location of the graffiti?
  • Enter the offensive language or drawing.

Council owned fence

Complete Merit request

Graffiti > Council Assets > Offensive or Non Offensive

To determine offensive and non-offensive, you will need to ask the customer exactly what has been graffitied. Examples of offensive: swear words, rude pictures or racist comments.

All reports that have offensive graffiti must be entered as a Safety Response and called through to Operation Centre.

  • What is the exact location of the graffiti? 
  • Enter what has been graffitied. If provided, enter the words or describe the drawings. If not, then enter the general term as above, swear words, rude pictures or racist comments.

Other council owned assets

Graffiti on the following Council assets:

  • Pavilions and Sporting grounds 
  • Park furniture e.g. bench's, BBQ's, playground equipment, etc 
  • Street furniture Park and street signs Signal boxes 
  • Fire Hydrants 
  • Council-owned toilets and exeloos 
  • Roads and footpaths 
  • Council-owned buildings

How to enter a report

Complete Merit request

  • Enter what has been graffitied. If provided, enter the words or describe the drawings. If not, then enter the general term as above, swear words, rude pictures or racist comments.

Customer's own property

Advise the customer of the 3 options available
 

Option 1 - Free graffiti removal kit

Free graffiti removal kits are available for pick up at all Customer Service Centres.

Contains

  • 1 bottle of SupaSafe Black Graffiti Remover
  • 1 Nylon Bristle Paint Brush
  • 1 Nylon Bristle Scrub Brush
  • 1 pair chemical resistent gloves
  • 1 pair of safety glasses, saline eye rinse, cleaning cloth, instruction sheet
  • Safety Data Sheet


 

Option 2 - If graffiti is offensive ONLY (Conditions apply)

Council may investigate removal only if the following applies: 

  • Offensive with racist or swear words
  • It's visible to the public
  • Only if it can be removed without entering the property, e.g fence, roller door, front wall, shop front, etc

If any of the above applies then:

Graffiti > Private Property > Offensive 

All reports that have offensive graffiti must be entered as a Safety Response and called through to Operation Centre. 

Ask and record in the description of Merit:

  • What is the exact location of the graffiti? eg: front wall or gate
  • What type of surface is the graffiti on?
  • Enter what has been graffitied. If provided, enter the words or describe the drawings. If not, then enter the general term as above, swear words, rude pictures or racist comments.

Option 3 - Private Graffiti Removalists

Customers can pay for graffiti to be removed by private graffiti removalists. This is at customer's own cost. Council is not able to make recommendations of who to use.

The customer can find graffiti removalists via google, yellow pages or local newspapers.

Someone else's private property

Council may investigate removal only if the following applies: 

  • Offensive with racist or swear words
  • It's visible to the public
  • Only if it can be removed without entering the property, e.g fence, roller door, front wall, shop front, etc

  • What type of surface is the graffiti on?
  • Enter what has been graffitied. If provided, enter the words or describe the drawings. If not, then enter the general term as above, swear words, rude pictures or racist comments.

    If the above criteria is not met

    Complete a Merit

    Unsightly premises > Private Property

    Ask and record in the description of Merit:

    • What is the exact problem?

    Railway crossings, overpasses or structure near railways

    The rail corridor from Westall Rd overpass to Yarraman Station is now the responsibility of the LXRA for the next 1 – 2 years.

    On light poles
