Syringes dumped on Council land

Before entering a report advise the caller

  • They must be willing to leave their name and contact number, in the event we are unable to locate the syringe. We will be able to contact them for clarification. We are unable to enter anonymous reports.

How to enter a report

Complete Merit request

Rubbish > Syringe (safety response must be entered)
Call Operation Centre after completing the report. All reports are considered to be safety response 


Ask and record in the description of Merit:

  • Provide as much detail as possible to where the syringe is located

Syringes dumped on land or in a dwelling that the Council does not own

If the syringe /needles are found on land or in a dwelling that the Council does not own.

E.g: 

  • non-council-owned carparks
  • privately owned homes
  • privately owned factories and commercial properties
    If unsure, check Intramaps to determine if the Council owns the land or dwelling

CSO:

  • Advise the caller that the Council does not collect syringes from private property and that they will need to dispose of themselves
  • Provide them with the Fact sheet - Handling used syringes

They can dispose of the syringe/needle if contained in a safe glass container at council offices:

  • Dandenong Customer Service
  • Springvale Customer Service
  • Parkmore is not equipped to dispose of containers only to pick up new ones
