What is essential safety measures?
When the construction of a building is complete, the building owner, and in some cases the building occupier, are responsible for its upkeep and maintenance, in particular its essential safety measures.
What is an essential safety measure?
Essential safety measures include all traditional building fire services such as sprinklers, mechanical services, but also include passive fire safety such as fire doors, fire rated structures and other building infrastructure items, such as paths of travel to exits.
Essential safety measures are the fire and life safety items that are installed or constructed in a building to ensure adequate levels of fire safety over the life of the building.

The report must be recorded into Merit as a safety response. During business hours transfer call immediately to Building Services Admin to report a safety response. If you cannot get through, contact one of the Building Safety Officers below.
