A council permit is not required for the following:
- Chimineas are terracotta outdoor fireplaces
- A firepit or other appliance constructed for the purpose of heating while it is being used for that purpose
- Gas or electric BBQ
- Food cooked in a cooking pit(hangi), oven in the ground, wood fire pizza oven and clay oven
Conditions for BBQ's on Residential Properties
The following conditions apply when using a barbeque on a residential property.
- Excessive smoke or offensive smoke is not to be created
- Only gas or electric barbeques permitted on total fire ban days
- BBQ must be more than 1 meter from the side or rear boundary, or more than 3 meters from the front of the land that the barbeque is on
Can I have a barbecue, light a campfire or light a fire for warmth on total fire ban days?
All campfires, fires for warmth or personal comfort are banned during Total Fire Ban Days. Solid and liquid fuel barbecues and ovens (including hangis) are also banned during Total Fire Ban Days.
Unless:
The barbecue uses only gas or electricity.

Using private BBQs at Council Reserves
Subject to Fire Ban restrictions, personal BBQs are allowed on Council Reserves if the signage at the park allows for it. Visit the Park beforehand to verify.
