Only certain types of animals can be kept on a residential property less than half a hectare in size. There is also a limit on the number of animals (per type) you can keep without a permit.

**Roosters cannot be kept on land that is less than 400 square metres in size.
Properties between 400-5000 square metres require a permit to have a rooster.
No livestock can be kept on land that is less than half a hectare (5000 square metres) in size.
